Year 2-5 Dance Classes

In our fun and relaxed Dance classes for children, we aim to build confidence and develop movement skills. Creativity is encouraged and we love to try the children’s dance ideas! We include Modern, Ballet and Jazz in our curriculum and use lots of different music styles and themes to allow the children’s imagination to flourish. We are maintaining social distancing and working to keeping everybody as covid-safe as possible. We can’t wait to see you!

Our theme for September and October is Beauty & the Beast! Join us on a journey as we visit an enchanted castle where a prince has been turned into a beast. We’ll meet Beauty as she is held captive at the castle, but in time learns to care for and falls in love with the Beast. Our dance concept is levels and our creative activities allow students to move in low, medium and high levels. We’ll also be looking at how we show different characters in our bodies, like the different servants changed into clocks and candles at the castle!

In November and December our fairy tale is Cinderella! We’ll meet Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother as she sends Cinderella off to the ball. We’ll dance as Cinderella when she meets the prince and flees from the palace when the clock strikes twelve! We’ll be looking at emotions in this topic and look at how we can express how we feel with our bodies through Dance. We have a special trip to the Theatre planned too where we can watch performance skills in action!

On a child’s first lesson, they will be given all the props that they need for the term and ask please that they are brought to every class. Children can wear whatever they would like to and the only requirement is that it is clean on that day and there is something on the feet, such as ballet shoes, house slippers, gripped socks etc. Hair should be back from the face with a hair band/ hair clips etc away from the mouth.

Our classes take place in the Main Hall in the Bradford on Avon Youth Centre. While we cannot allow parents in the room, three doors will be open in the Hall so you are welcome to glance in at any time. Parents are welcome to wait in our foyer area with face coverings or can make use of our outside space. For those with siblings to entertain, there is the Victory Field park across the road, dog walking field behind and Canal towpath next door. If you are going off site, please just let me know and leave 2 contact telephone numbers.
